SITE CLOSURE ACTIVITES AT FORMERLY USED DEFENSE SITES
RENOVA was selected by CENAE as the prime contractor for various remedial activities to address FUDS properties located throughout New Jersey and New York. RENOVA conducted debris removal, building demolition, geophysical investigations, and removal of underground storage tanks (USTs) across 24 FUDS sites. Site logistics were challenged by ferry-only access to remote islands and locales ranging from southern New Jersey to the New York/Canadian border.
RENOVA’s work at the former Fort H.G. Wright on Fishers Island included the identification and removal of nine (9) USTs, implementing subsequent remedial actions, and disposal of abandoned transformers. On Plum Island, RENOVA removed USTs and implemented multiple remedial actions.
Site-specific work completed by RENOVA at the Nike missile control and launch site in Woolwich, NJ included lead and asbestos surveys of all buildings to be demolished, historic photographic documentation, removal of hydraulic missile elevator platforms, and closure of the missile magazines to prevent public access. RENOVA removed and disposed of transformers from the Welsbach & General Gas Mantle Superfund site.
All of the FUDS tasks were completed by RENOVA with zero reportable incidents or safety concerns, while strictly adhering to the implementation schedules.
