FUEL SPILL RESPONSE AND REMEDIATION

RENOVA was selected by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) as the prime contractor to address commingled releases of #6 oil and marine diesel fuel at USCG Station Montauk, New York. RENOVA managed and implemented all phases of the project, from interim remedial measures and initial site characterization, to the time-critical removal action and final site restoration. Extensive coordination was required to ensure uninterrupted USCG Station operations, with the bulk of the field work being completed during the harsh Montauk winter months and outside of the summer tourist season. Interim remedial measures included construction of free-product interceptor trenches in addition to maintaining a network of marine containment booms along the surrounding waterfront. RENOVA conducted a site investigation to delineate the extent of soil and groundwater impacts along the surrounding waterfront.

In preparation for the remedial action, RENOVA conducted a site investigation to delineate the extent of soil and groundwater impacts. The complex utility infrastructure consisting of more than 25 separate lines crossing the area of concern was mapped out via an underground utility survey. Temporary aboveground fueling systems were installed and geotechnical construction components were emplaced, including twelve (12) helical piers and 100 linear feet of steel sheet piling, and all underground utilities were relocated, disconnected, or de-energized. A 2,000 gallon-per-minute groundwater extraction and treatment system was installed, operated and maintained continuously throughout the remedial action. RENOVA excavated of over 2,000 tons of non-hazardous, diesel-impacted soil to within NYSDEC standards. The project was accomplished to the complete satisfaction of the client and with zero health or safety concerns. Due to our performance on this complex project, RENOVA was nominated by the USCG, and eventually awarded, the 2020 SBA Region II Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year.
