SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM REHABILITATION

Renova was selected by the National Park Service (NPS) as the prime contractor for an extensive rehabilitation of the sewer system at Gateway National Recreation Area in Queens, New York. RENOVA proved to be the right choice for this project – overcoming challenges such as shallow groundwater, undisclosed utilities and subsurface structures, and operating under multiple permits involving PSE&G, National Grid, New York City, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

The base contract included the removal and replacement of sewer manholes and associated piping, rehabilitating manholes, slip-lining existing piping, and curing-in-place existing piping. Rehabilitation work included upgrades to the sewer pump station – with a new slab, controls, control panel, and pumps. All existing sewer pipes were cleaned/jetted and the rehabilitated pipes were inspected via CCTV video.

In total, RENOVA replaced or rehabilitated approximately 5,600 linear feet of sanitary sewer line and forty-one (41) manholes throughout the site.

Following the sewer system rehabilitation, the site was restored to its previous condition, which included asphalt and concrete restoration, spreading topsoil, and hydroseeding disturbed areas. RENOVA worked diligently to navigate the project’s challenges and completed the work safely and with zero reportable incidents.
