REMEDIAL ACTION OPERATION

RENOVA was selected as the prime contractor by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) to complete Remedial Action Operation (RAO) at Detachment (DET) Sandy Hook. The RAO encompassed all phases of the complex project, including utility infrastructure relocation; federal and state regulatory permitting and coordination; remedial action investigation, design, and implementation; and regulatory reporting. The project encountered the distinct challenges of taking place within an ecologically sensitive natural resource (ENSR) habitat and subject to a compressed schedule due to the client’s need to prepare the site for base-wide renovations.

RENOVA continuously operated a 1,000-gallon per minute groundwater extraction and treatment system, with more than 12 million gallons safely discharged over the project duration. RENOVA self-performed on the removal action, including underpinning utilities via helical piles, UST removal, excavating 2000 tons of impacted soil, and LNAPL recovery. RENOVA complete restoration of the site, including the sensitive dune habitat, and closed out the project with technical reporting to satisfy the NJDEP’s regulatory requirements. All work was completed safely and within the allotted budget and schedule.
